From the Burpple community

Getuk Getuk (a dessert made with cassava/tapioca with grated coconut toppings ) VS. Getuk Ubi (with "sweeter" coconut toppings - in orange) are so addictive and one of our top lists in Bengawan Solo.

These 2 types of Getuks are available only in some outlets.

🍰 Pandan Cheese Roll
📍Bengawan Solo
📌 multiple outlets
💰 $1.70

When I think about common flavour combinations with pandan, I wouldn't think of cheese. The idea of putting cheese together with pandan cake is pretty strange, but I decided to give it a try anyway! At $1.70 for a relatively small and thin slice, this cake is slightly pricey while still remaining relatively affordable.

The pandan cake is really dense and soft with a light pandan fragrance. The cheese filling has kind of a flaky texture. Initially I was expecting it to taste like regular creamy cream cheese, but the filling is actually buttercream with bits of shredded cheese inside. Really odd to be honest, having shredded, flaky savoury cheese paired with a strong buttery sweet cream. I wasn't really a big fan of this combo.

Generally a really unique cake but I wouldn't get it again. It's a pretty unorthodox pairing and maybe you'll enjoy it but personally I'd give it a pass.

⭐ Rating: 7.4/10 cheese creams

Day 15: On day 13, we posted steamed Kueh Lapis with colorful layers. The original one looks somber with substance and slightly more expensive than the steamed one. Do we prefer it? ‘No’. Do we need to pay more? ‘Yes’
‘Welcome to the Layer Cake son!’😆

Day 14: “Been in plenty of sticky situations in life, we still want all in it!” 😜 Sticky Sagu with middle layer implies gula Melaka. We try to be precise in term of outlet location for the Kueh we get from Bengawan Solo as it seems not all outlets store the same type of Kuehs. Junction 8 is one of our favorite stall where you can get your hand on this yummy treat. 🤘

Day 10: Mark the half-way towards our Kueh challenge with this Kueh Salat. Not in the perfect square shape but taste very balanced. 🤩 The glutinous rice portion matches very well with silky kaya layer.🤟

Day 9: Steamed tapioca makes its way to the front row by wearing the brightest shade of sugar (orange!). It is much brighter than ‘Getuk getuk’ its sibling. We think that it also tastes lovelier and better suited to our sweet palette.
We will need to take a little break for the Kueh challenge after day 10 as we embark on our trip.
