This Mexican grocer may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of tacos, but if you’re in the area, you should absolutely pop by! Priced at $10 for three pork or chicken tacos ($12 for bistec), these babies come fully loaded with rice, refried beans and lotsa pulled meat doused in lip-smacking sauce — so flavourful it’ll be like a Cinco de Mayo party in your mouth!
My passion for Mexican food runs deep and I wish the food scene here was huge on Mexican food like in the States, but sadly it isn't. Was on the hunt for masa harina to recreate tacos at home and a google search led me to Belmonte. Headed to pick up a tortilla press and couldn't resist trying their tacos because. You know.
TL;DR version: I have found legit tacos and everyone should go try this. Albeit heavier (compared to those I had in Mexico) because they're loaded with rice/refried beans and the proteins are doused in a heavier sauce, the flavour is spot on. The smell is also 👌👌
It's a little out of the way and Belmonte isn't a restaurant, but at $10 for 3, just have a quick meal or grab and go! (You can sit in actually. Plus points for the owner being really nice 😊) They have popsicles as well which I will try when I return (yes, planning for it even though I just left).
