More Reviews of good food at Bella by BIG

I LOVE crabmeat pasta. This one is pretty spicy (awesome!). It’s balanced out by the sourness. Probably from the tomatoes and I think some lemon juice as I found some lemon seeds in the dish.

This comes in different portion sizes. Make sure you tell the waiter. I did the mistake and the waiter placed the order as the larger of the two options.

The smaller serving is RM35 and the bigger is RM52.

Dish of the day, roast lamb cutlets with spinach salad, green peas and pumpkin purée. I love how the Italian chef whipped out different dishes daily. The medium roast lamb cutlets was so juicy and that perfect combination of the velvety pumpkin purée with lamb jus makes you want more.

Bella by big, located along Lorong Kurau same row as Bakar. This small cozy restaurant offers good authentic Italian meals. Dish of the day, Guancia Di Manzo is a braised beef cheeks in Barolo red wine served with rutabaga a type of swede, sundried tomatoes and green peas risotto. That beef cheek was so soft and tender, nicely braised in red wine which reminds me of a French red wine beef dish, Bœuf bourguignon. RM 78 per plate.

The gnocchi (potato dumplings) made in house by the chefs in Bella was good. They are soft outside and firm inside. Glad that the italian chef on duty was able to cook something off the menu. Served in truffle cream sauce with generous amount of truffle shavings, drizzles of olive oil. Sauce was just nice and not too cloyingly sick. RM68 per plate.

Slices of Roma tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella cheese, basil leaves and balsamic vinegar. RM34 per serving.

A classic Italian appetiser. Australian rock melon topped with air dried Cecina beef ham and some rocket salad. RM48 per serving.

As the BIG Group continues on its rebranding streak, we welcome Bella in place of the well-loved Mario & Luigi's along Lorong Kurau. The former choice for date nights has transformed into a fun Italian restaurant, sporting brighter colours and better variety. Do like Burpple Tastemaker Melanie Yu and wind down with your girlfriends here on a quiet weekday night. To help tide you over while ordering, enjoy the complimentary side of bread and grissini (breadsticks). Fresh, off-the-stove Italian dishes are the focus here, best represented by their seafood pasta dishes. The one that gets most of the limelight is a Spaghetti Al Granchio (RM68), spaghetti in roasted sauce garlic butter crowned with a whole mud crab. Less eye-catching but also delicious is the Linguine Vongole (RM38) steeped in a flavoursome clam broth. For drinks, look to the wine list or ask the staff for a glass that goes best with your dish — they'll be happy to help.
Avg price per person: RM50
