Barrafina

It's a magical feeling to dine here at this one Michelin star Spanish tapas place alone, seated at the counter. You're right smack in the middle taking in all the high-energy action of the kitchen, yet on the inside of me, things are happening in slow-mo as I've all night long to watch, eat and savor.

It took me 15 mins before I placed my first order, as dining alone means I have only one stomach space to finish fully every dish, so I can't screw up any orders. I was watching every dish that was prepared right before my eyes, before I finally picked this as my first dish.

I like that it's soft, and it's super soft. It's under-seasoned, a little, but you can always add salt yourself, which was what I did. What I didn't like was how it lacked smokiness. I was too used to having octopus being fired in the josper grill.

Then I went on to eye my second dish, and the next. Before long I settled the bill for £50/S$88. And I thought to myself, maybe the Gold Mine roast duck the previous evening was more satisfying. I was already full but I walked down a few streets to buy a Shake Shack burger, followed by a bubble tea from Chinatown. It's true when you're cold and alone in London, all you want is not Michelin-star but some comfort food.

One of the most interesting dish on the menu from Barrafina, a restaurant that serves tapas. Wouldn't think you'd eat a flower right? But yes, right there and it's filled with goat cheese. Really good tapas that's worth recommending at Barrafina, one of the recommended restaurant in Michelin 2014 guide.
