Been a while since I last visited them. Still making us full despite the quality seems to drop a little. The mushroom soup wasn't as mushroomy as it used to be. Other soup were alright and suit accordingly to local taste.
Food wise generally were thawed, clean and plated properly.
Advice y'all to go normal buffet as there are many items to have already unless want seafood or some small bites.
Best day to warm yourself up in these cold days.

They got our bills wrong but I didn’t notice that at the time. Feeling cheated. Two of us ordered essential but the bill was 81.6. We left in a rush for a movie and didn’t check/get the receipt. Well played.

I have tried xiao cao xiang at toa payoh before and I think it was nice and affordable. When they closed and xiangcao reopened, I was sad but happy that the legacy continue. I saw the menu in their Facebook for that price makes me happy and I went. However, sad to learn that it is only for premium buffet and the price is quite significant. xiao cao xiang seems to have offered better ingredient at a lower price.

Please update your menu items and price clearly. It is very misleading

Also, do indicate the soup charges in your online menu.

Tomato soup & Tom yum soup taste surprisingly good & appetizing, but the mala spicy soup is a disappointment though; bland & not spicy at all.. Love the spicy version peanut dipping sauce which is more spicy than the mala soup; meat, seafood & veggies are fresh..

Great flavorful soup bases, pretty fresh cuts of meat and seafood, greens, tofu, and condiments. Prepare for a wait in line.

Walked up and down Liang Seah street, aka steamboat street now 😂, before finally settling with this place! They have an ala carte option as well but we went for the standard 90 minutes buffet (they’re quite strict during peak hours). If I didn’t remember wrongly, the premium buffet is around $32++, but it looks more worth if you take beef - we saw many tables ordering plates and plates of them! The trio soup base is an additional $8 top up per table with their mushroom base as a default. We went for tomato and ma la for the other two.

They have a good range of veg, seafood, etc. that is available for you to take, while their fish and meats are prepared on order. Ingredients were all pretty fresh I must say! Ma la broth was drinkable and the mushroom base was comforting.

Overall it’s affordable for its variety plus free flow drinks and ice cream, but it got really stuffy after awhile. Ventilation inside is not the best, it might be cooler sitting outside if you’re coming for dinner! Weekdays’ pricing per pax is $25.80++.

Took the premium buffet, totally worth it! Service is good! Look at this portion for 2 pax only! And it’s buffet!

Rein by their signature mushroom soup base, they have both ala carte and buffet options. In exact, 2 kind of buffet options - the normal one and the premium one which includes additional items like wagyu, black pork, scallops etc. For the usual normal selection, it has a decent variety of pork belly, beef belly, pork shoulder, tender beef slices, fish slices, handmade balls, mushrooms and veggies etc. All their ingredients are fresh and timely replenished. Among all the soup stocks, I still personally like the mushroom one, it’s light and flavorful. While the mala base is kind of fragrant but lack the oomph while the herbal soup is easily sweetened up with all the ingredients added into it. Quite worth the buck I would say! But it gets really crowded! So there’s a time limit during peak period and to avoid the queue remember to make a reservation!

Very nice place. I like the soup base. The mushrooms are a must to enjoy the hotpot. Mushrooms with prawn paste is an interesting blend. Also try a jar of home made 酸梅汤.

First trying their Mushroom soup base steamboat (野生菌汤),food are fresh and the taste of the soup are quite special but 偏淡. shop are located at 26 Liang seah street .

The hotpot soup base is special and interesting to try once. Their sauces for the steamboat are nice, I think. They have wide variety of mushrooms that people might not have heard before and pretty expensive. The bill came up around $80-$90 for two people, similiar to Hai Di Lao and Imperial Treasure Steamboat. Not sure because of the poor hygiene or was unlucky to have stomach ache after eating this. So will think again for coming back here.

Topped up $8/pot to make it a three base pot with wild mushroom soup as a fixed soup. We had the tomato and herbal soup. I'm glad that the soup had improve as it tasted heavier, stronger and distinct enough than what I had previously.
With the wide selection of normal buffet, there isn't a need to go for premium unless you want their wild mushroom Platter plus other unlockable (but I seriously recommend you all to try once, strange name mushroom but taste fantastic).🥺
Spamming the meats and normal mushroom into the hot piping soup. Hehe. Get their fish too. Tasty meat & tender fish once cooked. Dip into your self made sauce to savour it.
What a great and enjoyable meal with friends to have before coma-ing for the night.😴

Can’t deal with the queues at HDL? Hate to go against the crowd? I found a similar/better experience at 香草 Xiang Cao Yunnan Original Ecology Steamboat, Liang Seah St! Dinner eat-all-you-can buffet only at $40+/Pax (Definitely cheaper than what you can eat at HDL 😂) Not only best when you’re on a budget but honestly speaking, I love LOVE their soup-base, especially the Mala and Tomato broth! NO WAIT, EVEN THEIR MUSHROOM BROTH IS HEAVENLY! IT’S DAMN THICK, FRAGRANT AND DUPER DELICIOUS I SWEAR! Also, what’s better than free flow of 🥩? I guess there’s only two thing for me HDL can beat the rest, THEIR BEANCURD SKIN AND EXCELLENT SERVICE 😂💯

Xiang Cao Yunnan Original Ecology Hotpot (香草云南原生态火锅) is one would recommend.
A La Carte or 90 mins buffet? Of course buffet lah! A choice between normal or premium were the variety of drinks & additional premium food.(Get their premium, worth it)
First, you can have up to 4 out of 5 different type of soup base. (Mushroom & Mala base preferred)
Mala base is just at the right amount of spiciness to cater even for non spicy-eater, more to a sweeter side.
Mushroom base is the best & most popular one. A sip from it & you will feel at peace.
Second, choose over a variety of FRESH seafood & meat that is worth your every penny. (Scallop & their premium meats)
Third, take their one time order of their mushroom platter. Pour all mushroom into mushroom soup & cook for 15mins (timer provided), it enhances the flavour of the soup; and the mushrooms are fantastic & also increase your knowledge cause seriously I don't know what these mushroom are called or exist.
