Mythical Chawanmushi:
For someone who loves his eggs, I was left speechless when this chawanmushi (steamed egg) from @unclekiisu arrived on my table. At first glance, I was unsure of what this dish was, until the waitress mentioned the name of it. Mythical Chawanmushi its called, and mythical it was. Who would have thought that a simple steamed egg dish could become so... luxurious? The steamed egg is topped with a plump scallop sashimi that was covered with a huge amount of tobiko and ikura and the unicorn you see on top is made with dashi powder, squid ink, and is adorned in gold and truffle essence. I had limited time to take a photo of this dish as the unicorn started to melt after a few minutes and it dyed the chawanmushi black. Although an unusual sight to behold, that mesmerising moment of it melting proved to be an essential part of the mythical experience. It melting not only changed the visual composition of the dish, but it also enhanced the flavour of it to a very great extent. Looking at the generous amount of tobiko and ikura present here, you might think that this dish will be priced exorbitantly high. Well, you are very much mistaken. This dish is priced affordably at only $3.80! How awesome is that? Uncle Kiisu is located at Novena Square 2, #02-65. Time to get some unicorn! 🦄

Chahan Unagi:
This is essentially a take on the classic unagi chahan, and it is one of the more popular items on the menu at @unclekiisu and I could see (and taste) why. The garlic fried rice dish was extremely fragrant. Even before the dish reached the table, the air was already filled with the aroma of wok-hei and garlic. The charred garlic fried rice dish uses a blend of garlic chips and kebayaki sauce which comes together perfectly, giving you the classic but enhanced fried rice flavour, as well as having the hint of Japanese cuisine's element infused into it.This is one of those dishes that is capable of kick starting your appetite by scent, way before the dish even reaches your mouth. It being topped a huge and generous slab of unagi, the situation could not have been more perfect. Although this dish may seem like a simple combination of ingredients, I can assure you that this pairing would easily make it for the "couple of the year" award if there was one for awesome food pairings. With this dish, you can expect to leave the table fully satisfied as the portions here are huge for a very justifiable price point ($21.80). Located at Novena Square 2, #02-65, it is highly accessible and as per their catch phrase, you can be sure to truly #LoveCalories when you dine with them.

Thank you Chef Marcus from Uncle Kiisu for having us and thank you @traditionalfoodhero for your kind invitation to this food tasting session. It was my first and I had a truly enjoyable and memorable time. It was nice dining and learning from @ariane.le as well, being a more experienced and extremely professional foodie. I had a great time and I look forward to dining with you two again!

to have the raw-pportunity to dine like this...

A Japanese meal is probably incomplete without the presence of sashimi and it is always a sad moment when the sashimi runs out. However, happiness is persistent when dining at @shinminorisg as the sashimi never runs out. The Sashimi Moriwase (assorted sashimi) dish served here consists of various kinds of sashimi. I have never tried some of these before until now and I must say that they are all very different in flavour and texture. In this platter, there is the yellowtail (hamachi), tuna (maguro), salmon (shake), octopus (tako), cuttlefish (ika), and swordfish (mekajiki) sashimi. After devouring a few rounds of Sashimi Moriwase, I found that I liked all types of sashimi that was offered but I specifically loved the yellowtail, tuna, and salmon sashimi the most. This being an ala-carte buffet, and coupled with the fact of me me being a Singaporean, I must have ordered at least 8 rounds (each round being a smaller order of course) of sashimi. The sashimi was fresh and were offered in generous and thickly cut portions. Some may even say that the cut is too thick but I prefer it that way. If you are a mad sashimi lover who has a huge stomach capacity for it, then you should definitely go and give this ala-carte buffet a try. With 1-for-1 using @burpple Beyond, it is extremely worth it!

that moment was so crab-tivating...

Creamy Crab Croquette:
In a Japanese ala-carte buffet such as the one I have had at @shinminorisg , every one will probably have the same plan in mind and that is to order more of the "prized" dishes such as the sashimi, and to order less of the more common dishes. That was my plan too. This is why only one creamy crab croquette is pictured here. My plan was obviously a mistake because the moment I saw the contents oozing out of the croquette, I instantly regretted not ordering more of it at one go for I thought that it was a more "common" dish initially. Boy, was I wrong. But fret not as this was a buffet and I ordered more. Being careful and sceptical about my limited stomach capacity, once again, I only ordered one piece of it. Then the regret cycle repeated itself. I ordered 4 times in total in the end. These creamy crab croquettes were just irresistible. Deep fried to perfection upon order, it was crispy on the outside and the creamy crab filling inside was extremely flavourful. It was also very hot, so be careful, but I would willingly and voluntarily allow it to scald my tongue at any time of the day, for it is just that good. Being one of those dishes that you can never ever stop at one, this creamy crab croquette was one out of the 160++ items on the menu that left a very deep impression. When I visit Shin Minori again, I will definitely not make the same mistake of under ordering this dish again. What's even better is that with @burpple Beyond, it is 1-for-1. It is so worth it!

you know what I am takoyaki-ng about?...
.
.
Had lunch at @shinminorisg today and it was amazing. The variety of food was so extensive that it is impossible to try every single item on the menu in one seating. The takoyaki served here is just marvellous. The balls are fluffy and moist inside, a tad crispy on the outside, and the sauce just compliment the whole takoyaki so well. The sauce is very sweet though, so dip lightly! Other items on the menu that left me wanting more would definitely be the creamy crab croquette (will show it in another post another day), as well as the fancy unagi sushi which was SUPERB. Not forgetting the multiple kinds of sashimi available. I must have ordered at least 8 rounds of sashimi. If I had a larger stomach capacity, I would definitely have ordered more. Sadness is when the sashimi runs out when having a Japanese meal, but the sashimi never runs out at Shin Minori. I will definitely be back for it again. The lunch was so worth it especially with @burpple Beyond 1 for 1. I only had to pay $58.75 nett for two person. YUMMY! Do look forward to more posts in the upcoming days on what other yummy dishes I had at Shin Minori!

You know what is better than a bowl of goodness? A bowl of goodness filled with GOLD! I'm not talking about the tiny miserable pieces of gold flakes sprinkled on top of your vanilla soft serve. I'm talking about huuuuuuge chunks of golden goodness (as well as the tiny crisp added on the fluffy rice which pairs together extremely well). The tempura style items were huge, satisfying, crispy, and the batter was not too thick which made it close to perfect. With 3 spicy levels to choose from, there's definitely one that will hit you hard enough (some love it hot, yeah?) Best part of it all? You don't need to break the bank. For a limited time only, every 2nd Donburi Or Tendon that is rice based will be entitled to 50% off. 4 mains, 4 miso soup, and 4 chawanmushi (imagine eating your pillow), with free flow green tea for 4 at only $63 in total... Having these exact same items in a hawker centre may even add on to cost much more! Head down to @koganeyamasg now!

[Food Review]
Ever wondered what TOO MUCH tau sar in a tau sar pau feels like? For $0.80, you can indulge in an abundance of tau sar. One might contend that there is no such thing as having too much tau sar but seriously... give this a try and you will know! ITS OVERWHELMING, but I'm not complaining. 😁
