More Reviews of good food at 8 Korean BBQ (Clarke Quay Central)

I don't usually eat KBBQs, but decided to pop by 8 Korean BBQ for Chope's June Exclusive Menu. For $88++, we got a 4 Colours Set (u.p. $68) inclusive of a choice of stew. We opted for the Army Stew (u.p. add-on $6). The pork belly came in huge slabs which the staff helped to cook and cut into bite sized pieces. We liked the Miso flavour the most out of the four we chose, the others being Herb, Garlic, and Kalbi. As for the Army Stew, it was decent but nothing outstanding. Lots of ingredients like kimchi, luncheon meat, and chicken pieces inside though.

There were also Jumeokbap (u.p. $9), Kimchi Corn Cheese (u.p. $16), and 3 drinks (u.p. $2 each). Overall a hearty meal and we were more than satisfied.

What a glorious KBBQ meal i had at 8korean a while ago! Finally visited and saw what the hype was all about!! We got their signature 8 colours set (which was pork belly set of 8 different flavours - original, garlic, herb, red pepper, wine, curry and miso). Honestly, halfway into the meal i couldnโ€™t tell which flavour was what - there wasnt any explanation by the staff too so all based on feels and guesses!! Certain flavours shone more than the others like garlic and red pepper. While the rest did taste different from each other, I couldnโ€™t really recognise the flavours too. BUT was an experience!! Portion was rather little though - each row (as pictured) = one flavour! Special shoutout to the BANCHAN especially the freeflow kimchi that was grilled :โ€) Also, the staff helped with all the cooking which was LOVELY.

I loved the kimchi pancake so much!!!!!!!! The edges were EXTRA crispy and the pancake itself was chewy with the crunchiness of the kimchi itself :9 One of the best pancakesโ€ฆ reallyโ€ฆ (apologies for kimchi pancake photo - too eager to eat anyhow take photo)

We ordered army stew too, which i remembered it to be really good as well (perhaps didnโ€™t stand out as much as the pork and pancake) but the broth was comforting with a kick, coupled with the chewy ramen noodles to accompany our meal.

The 8-Colour Set ($98) from 8 Korean BBQ comes with pork belly in 8 different flavours (i.e. original, wine, ginseng, garlic, herb, curry, miso, red pepper), a stew of your choice and side dishes. The different flavours are not that distinct but nonetheless, the pork belly is quite delicious! The ratio of fat and meat is balanced, and the pork belly is slightly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The tangy grilled kimchi helps keep the greasiness of the pork belly at bay. The Seafood Soft Tofu Stew (top up $6) is slightly spicy and pretty flavourful as well. Even without rice, this set is super filling for 3 pax!

Additional order of meat here with their chicken thigh, I like that they will cut the meat into pieces for you to consume easier. It also comes with potato and enoki. $22++

For 1 to 2 pax, this set comes with 4 types of marinated sauce on your pork belly.

We got the wine, garlic, herb and kalbi, which was recommended by their staff.

They even will help you to prepare the meat, so you could enjoy your meal with their service.

The set also comes with refillable bean sprouts and kimchi. $58++

This place seems popular even though they are hiding in The Central, with full house when I came on public holiday dinner time.

They offer a few sets to choice from for their pork set, which included a kimchi stew.

Lots of vegetables inside with pork belly.

Delicious pork, their signatures 8 type of marinated pork allow us to experience the different taste of pork. Free flow of kimchi & beansprout. Highly recommended for pork bbq

While their 8 Colors Set is a little dear at $98++, you can rest assured that the pork being served is serious top shelf quality, as the pork is from the highly prized Hungarian Mangalitsa pigs. Those piggies are basically Hungaryโ€™s version of the famous Spanish Iberico pigs, and they are every bit as delicious.

The eight marinades slathered on the pork bellies are (from lightest flavored to heaviest), original, wine, honey ginger, curry, herb, miso, red pepper paste and kalbi. While the first three marinades were effectively there only in spirit, it allowed the superb natural flavors of the pork belly to really steal the show. The pork is fatty but utterly unctuous, and so so tremendously tender.

All the flavors taste exactly as expected, but the miso & kalbi marinated ones daintily danced away with my heart thanks their stellar flavors. Thereโ€™s always a waitstaff whoโ€™ll patrol your general area and cook your meats for you. Theyโ€™re pretty on the ball too, so all you gotta do is kick back and turn those Monday blues into a Monday boom.

This $98++ set meal for 4 pax comes with a large chigae hotpot, fresh green lettuce, heaps of dangkong (soy sprouts) and kimchi on the hotplate placed strategically downstream of the pork (so that the veg gets cooked in blistering hot oil which oozes out naturally as the pork crisps). Drinks are extra charge, at $2 per large glass of iced poricha.

Mangalica Pigs are small, cute and furry. This could have worked well in their favour had they not been so amazingly tasty and generously marbled as well. It is related to the European wild boar you see being roasted in Uderzo's comic strips, which I have wanted to eat when I was still Asterix's height. Mangalica samgyeopsal is amazingly well-suited for K BBQ's, as the founder of 8 Korea must have realised in a foodie eureka moment... I really learnt only five years ago on a family holiday that: pork bellies are tastier eaten only after they really really crisp, from a patient elder couple who ran a little samgyeopsal shop in Daehangno. This is somewhat surprising to me, because I have put many earlier meals of samgyeopsal with soju literally under my belt. Yet perhaps, it is not so surprising considering how soju can make one forget!
Now that I think of it, this tallies well with a great aunt's recipe for loh bak, which also calls for sauteeing the pork belly till it blisters.

I went to this restaurant at The Central on a weekend when it would be less crowded.

Had the 4 flavor set pork belly and we
chose garlic, herb, miso and kalbi. I like the miso and kalbi the most. We also had the tender and yummy wagyu ribeye ($88 for 200g), plus the flavorful seafood tofu stew. The only disappointment was the kimchi pancake which did not taste much of kimchi.

It comes with complimentary kimchi chigae. However, it is quite disappointing that the pork belly is not tender and not very fresh (got very strong frozen meat taste).

Pork jowl was quite fatty but also tough. The kind that it's so fart, it becomes solid fats lol. The pork jowl wasn't really marinated. It taste alright but not at this price point ($24).

Full of Ingredients including chopped mushrooms, carrots and what not. However, soup wasn't really spicy nor flavourful. It was quite bland.

If this is the signature... Not sure how non signature dishes will taste like.

We ordered 4 flavors for the pork belly, spicy chicken, Kim Chi pancake, steam egg and army stew. Used chope to get 30% off coupon for value 100. Not impressed by the bbq. The Kim Chi pancake was decent. Cost: 140 for 5 plus 1 kid

Didnโ€™t manage to try the beef, but the perks do come in pretty fancy marinated flavours like red wine. Go for the pork belly, while the pork collar is pretty tough.

Their service was also pretty good, grilling the pork belly for us and making sure the pieces were cooked properly. We love the fattiness of the pork belly as the juices flow out with each bite. Out of the 4 flavours, our favorite were Garlic and Miso! Their army stew was filled generously with the standard ingredients and the stew was tasty as hell ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Prices are a bit on the steeper side though!

4 Colours Pork Belly Set (Garlic, Miso, Curry, Red Pepper Paste) SGD58.00
Army Stew SGD24.00

When I think of authentic Korean BBQ restaurants in Singapore, @8koreanbbq will always be one of them that pops up in my mind. Hence, on National Day night when everyone was gluing their eyes on the television screen waiting for the Red Lions, singing along to the National Day songs or camping at some vantage point to catch a glimpse of the fireworks, I was out experiencing my own fireworksโ€™ moment at 8 Korean BBQ.

If you have been to 8 Korean BBQ, you will definitely not miss out ordering their Mangalitza pork set. Besides the 4 or 8 Colours Set, you can also get the Flower Pork Set ($68), which comes with flower pork belly, pork neck steak and pork jowl, the three best parts that you could have asked for from the Mangalitza Hog. Each set also comes with kimchi, bean sprouts and a seafood bean paste stew for 2-3 pax. You would have noticed that both the kimchi and bean sprouts are placed on the grill pan and the plate is tilted slightly to allow all the oily goodness from grilling the meat to flow down to the kimchi and bean sprouts to further enhance the flavours. Oh and did I mention that all the grilling is done by the kind staff so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your saรคm.

The 4 colour set ($58) is a nice amount for 2 people. It includes 4 strips of pork belly, kimchi, bean sprouts and a seafood stew. The pork was flavourful and delicious though some parts were too fatty for my liking. The kimchi, bean sprouts and seafood stew reminded me of the kbbqs I had in Korea too ๐Ÿ˜‹

Go!!!

If you want a Korean BBQ place that will get it's pork belly right, it's 8 Korean BBQ. Their meats are well marinated with the right amount of fats in each strip. Super tender and juicy after cooking.

The Flower Pork Set comes with pork neck steak, pork jowl, and 2 strips of pork belly. I chose garlic and kalbi for my marinates. Yum.
