Enjoy dining without burning a hole in your pocket, no membership required
Hailing from Kyoto, this chain restaurant was our only tonkatsu stop but it was so good I wouldn't have it any other way. Lucky us didn't have to queue though one was forming when we left.
Katsukura Meal (2360¥) came with tender fillet katsu and giant prawn katsu. Every bite was delightfully light and crisp with a good bite while retaining its juiciness and tenderness, while @cweizhi's loin had a higher proportion of fat that was melt-in-the-mouth! In addition to the sesame dip (freshly ground sesame + sweet tonkatsu sauce), the nutty fragrance helped elevate and bring out the flavours.
Every part of the meal was well-executed (except for the prawn whose batter was a tad denser) from the soup, barley rice to even their vegetables. What came as a surprise for me was the fresh raw cabbage paired with their ponzu sauce - I usually dislike the ones back home but this didn't have that awful stink of raw taste and was absolutely, refreshingly sweet.
